According to the VNA correspondent in New Delhi, in a statement, the Ministry of Health said that the number of cases and deaths caused by COVID-19 in this country is increasing at an “alarming” rate. Notably, the capital New Delhi and the state of Maharashtra both recorded a record increase in the number of new cases, at 24,375 and 67,123 cases, respectively.

As a precaution, the New Delhi government has requested mandatory 14-day home isolation for those returning from the Kumbh Mela religious festival in Haridwar, Uttarakhand state. Violators will be faced with legal action.

Earlier, on the evening of April 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to assess the COVID-19 epidemic, in which he stressed that states need to focus on testing, monitoring and treatment. . In addition, all necessary measures should be taken to improve the availability of beds for COVID-19 patients, including the construction of temporary isolation hospitals and centers.

Currently, with the sudden increase in the number of COVID-19 cases nationwide, the health system of India in many states and cities is under great pressure. Maharashtra, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and other highly infectious states, are facing problems such as lack of breathing aids, ICU beds (emergency resuscitation) and Remdesivir. The Indian government has recommended that people stay at home to break the chain of infection of the SARS CoV-2 virus.

Experts also urge citizens to comply with the same COVID-19 prevention regulations as they did during a pandemic outbreak last year to prevent the spread of the disease.
