Enable Ok Google

Google’s voice assistant is triggered simply when the user says ‘Ok, Google’. After that, the system captures what you are saying and answers your questions, informing, for example, the weather forecast, creating a route on Google Maps or displaying the results of a search. However, to use the feature, you must first activate it. Here’s how to do that.

How to enable Ok Google

Activating Ok Google on your smartphone must be done in the Google app on your smartphone. After opening it, tap the button More in the bottom right corner of the screen and go to settings > Voice. On the next screen, select the option Voice Match and then activate the switch next to Ok Google:

If this is the first time you’re doing this, you’ll need to grant some authorization to access Google, especially your microphone, so that the program can capture what you’re saying and provide the appropriate responses.

How to use Ok Google

With the function enabled, you can have two main ways to consult your voice assistant using Ok Google. The simplest is to hold down the Home button for a few seconds until a window appears at the bottom of the screen allowing you to launch the wizard:

If your smartphone does not have a physical Home button, just press and hold square icon which appears on the screen bar at all times and is indicated in the image above.

Your other option is to go back to the Google App and tap microphone icon to the right of the search field. You will also notice that this same icon appears in other applications, such as Google Maps, Gmail or even when accessing Google through the mobile browser:
