The Sony WF-1000XM3 is the latest True Wireless headset introduced by Sony. This product is expected to be sold in Vietnam on August 12, receiving reservations from July 29 with the expected price of about 5.5-6 million dong.

In 2017, Sony launched the WF-1000X with the ambition of defeating the True Wireless model that was slowing down to the unique position of the time it was Apple Airpods. However, the WF-1000X, once sold, encountered a problem of connection stability. Sony immediately released a firmware update to fix it but still could not solve the situation. In the following year, Sony continued to release new True Wireless models but none of the 1000X series.

The True Wireless series 1000X headset story seems to have closed, Sony suddenly launched WF-1000XM3. The appearance of this product received great attention from users. What will the WF-1000XM3 show to regain Sony's position in the audio playing field as well as when compared to new competitors?

In this article, we will find answers to those questions together.

Open the box

The WF-1000XM3 carrying case has the dominant white tones commonly found on Sony high-end products. The front is an illustrated image and a sign that identifies the color version of the headset contained within. The WF-1000XM3 has two color versions, black and silver.

In fact, the silver version is not really silver like its name suggests. The color of the charger case and housing housing turns more ivory than silver.

The technical information and properties of the product are printed in detail on the back and bottom of the box.

The accessories included with the WF-1000XM3 include 6 sets of eartips (3 sets of silicon and 3 foam hybrids), 1 charger cable and 1 user manual.

Completely new design

Sony is always worshiping the value of difference. The appearance of the WF-1000XM3 is a complete makeover compared to its predecessor released two years ago. The headset will not be the same as any headset on the market today.

Seen from the outside, the WF-1000XM3 looks simple with a glossy round cell, next to it is a small hole I guess is a noise-canceling microphone and a Sony yellow copper logo on the side.

But turning to the inside, I was surprised by the housing structure that was somewhat complicated by the WF-1000XM3. According to what I learned, Sony has applied the Ergonomic Tri-hold architecture to optimize comfort and certainty thanks to 3 ear contact points. It is no coincidence that the WF-1000XM3 has a special appearance like this.

The entire body of the WF-1000XM3 is made of hard plastic with very high sophistication. Paying close attention to the details, we will see the remarkable complexity that Sony equips its child.

Three contact pins are gold plated to increase the exposure of the headset to the charging box. The part around the speaker is covered with a thin layer of rubber to increase ear grip. The small hole in the housing, two large symmetrical holes work to vent the driver to work inside and a small hole to record the microphone. A glossy black plastic strip, different from the usual plastic background is the position where the sensor automatically stops playing music when you remove the headphones.

The sound hole part of the WF-1000XM3 does not use a conventional screen, but a sponge. Perhaps it is because of the appearance of many small holes in the housing of the housing that explains why the WF-1000XM3 is not water-resistant like sports headsets.

In contrast to the housing section, the charger box of the WF-1000XM3 has a rather classic design with a deep brown box lid. How to open the box is also made classic clamshell style like on Apple Airpods. As someone who used a variety of True Wireless headsets, I found that the way of opening and closing this type of box is still the most simple and convenient.

Can be creative in appearance but user experience is still important. Understanding that and learning from the design on the WF-1000X, Sony has equipped a magnet to hold both the headset and the charger box. I personally deserve this highly detailed price on the WF-1000XM3.

The charger box of the WF-1000XM3 has been equipped with a new Type-C charging port to replace the old Micro-USB standard. And of course, we will have the NFC standard one-touch connection on the charging case, which Sony always does with all its accessories.

Impressive noise-proof experience

When I heard about the new WF-1000XM3 model equipped with a new noise-canceling chip and dual noise-reduction receiver microphone, I just imagined that it would be a little better than the WF-1000X or Jabra Elite 65t a bit. but not. It is an extremely large distance, much better and almost on par with the WH-1000XM3 – the world's best noise-canceling headset.

Walking on the street and wearing WH-1000XM3 in, boom, welcome to the world of stillness. The opposite feeling between wearing and removing headphones clearly like day and night. All engine buzzing and honking are reduced to 8 parts. The noise reduction effect will increase by 100% when you press the play button in the music player. At this point nothing can stop you and your private space. When wearing this headset in the office, her colleague screamed at her throat and finally she had to go to her place and pat her shoulder to realize it.

That story happened before I downloaded the Headphones Connect app. In this software with intelligent noise protection, it automatically adjusts the noise level according to the environment to avoid wearing headphones as "deaf" as I do. In addition, you can fully turn off the noise-canceling mode manually, activate the quick notification mode, and the Ambient sound to listen to ambient sounds while at the train station or hospital.

Connection is not interrupted

Sony has not satisfied fans around the world again. Happily, the WF-1000XM3 has no longer dropped its connection thanks to the new Bluetooth 5.0 chip and the large-sized antenna receiver. Experiencing practically all of his 4-hour usage from listening to music, watching movies to playing games, the shocking sound like on the WF-1000X doesn't appear at all. Everything works very smoothly and smoothly.

A notable point if you use an Android phone. As soon as the headset is turned on, the phone will automatically appear on the popup informing Google Assistant of the connection. Although the popup connection is not as big and beautiful as the Apple Airpods, it shows the professionalism of a big headphone from Mr. Sony.

The one-touch touch control on the ear is quite responsive, the response time is not immediate due to the latency of the Bluetooth connection but I don't feel too uncomfortable. This touch button Sony allows us to program the functions for each ear just like on Apple Airpods, very convenient for those who are as ignorant as me.

Battery life is another strength of the WF-1000XM3. According to Sony's announcement, with one full charge, two headsets will last 6 hours continuously while turning on noise and 8 hours when the noise is turned off. Plus the charger box capable of charging 3 times more headphones, too much power for 1 day of use.

Warm sound, vibrant

To accurately assess the sound quality of this headset model, I set the audio quality signal priority level instead of the stability in the settings of the control software. This setting gives a much better sound quality, but it sometimes happens that the ear automatically switches to the connection priority mode, which takes about 5 seconds. At the same time, I also turned off the DSEE HX, which makes the treb sound distorted and noticeable.

The overall sound of Sony WF-1000XM3 is thick, warm and vibrant. It is very easy to hear and easy to use with a large number of users.

The bass range of the headphones is good, but not too much like the EXTRA BASS models. Experimenting with MJ's "Billie Jean" shows that sub-bass has a heavy weight and down, a mid-bass full, very round and smooth beating. Bass control is quite good, not being encroached into the mid range. The bass speed is moderate, so when playing metal songs, it will get a little stuck. If you find this bass is not enough, you can completely increase the bass level through the Clear Bass feature on the control software. This is a kind of good quality EQ throughout Sony products so you can take advantage of it.

Mid range warm, quite thick, slightly backward than the stage for relax. Instrument details are also quite good. For this mid range, the WF-1000XM3 shows a male voice which is better than female. With rock ballads like Richard Marx's "Now And Forever", the guitar is a bit heavier and thicker than usual. The vocalist's voice shows the right masculine, polite.

The treble range of the WF-1000XM3 makes me quite impressive. Usually the ears are dark, the sound band will be dimmed but the WF-1000XM3 is an exception. Treble is still quite glittering, up and not lacking in pitch. Cymbal sounds still retain the tinkling and space required. The low-treble part is not boosted so there is absolutely no sib phenomenon (harsh in ch, sh, s, …).

The soundstage of the WF-1000XM3 stops at an average level. It recreates the cozy atmosphere of a small tea room instead of a large stadium. The soundstage will also change slightly when you turn off the noise-canceling mode of this headset.

As a result of getting up after falling, Sony is in the process of regaining its big position. The WF-1000XM3 overcomes all the shortcomings that exist on the old WF-1000X, improving the grip of the headset, True Wireless's most powerful noise protection, intelligent features and warm sound quality. vibrant. There is no reason to stop the WF-1000XM3 from writing its name on the list of True Wireless phones.
