As the news about the new iPhone generation, iPhone 13 is revealed, the more questions about whether to buy an old Apple smartphone from Apple are more interested. One of the oldest phones in the Apple family is the iPhone 8 Plus, which is still sought after by users. In this article, I will evaluate in detail the iPhone 8 Plus after nearly 4 years of launch to see if this device is still worth the money?

The machine I used in the review was used for a while, the battery status was 83% and the internal memory capacity was 64GB. The article will be fully updated on May 12, please remember to look forward to it!
The design of the iPhone 8 Plus still makes users infatuated
iPhone 8 Plus launched nearly four years ago. Therefore, this smartphone still carries in its quite old design from the iPhone 6 era. The feature of this look is the relatively thick upper and lower bezel and the appearance of the Home button.
Personally, when choosing between the iPhone 8 Plus or the new Apple smartphones such as the iPhone X, which can be used for a long time, I have also considered a lot in terms of design. One side is tilted in nostalgia with the familiar home button, the other side is modern with a rabbit-ear screen as the highlight. In the end, I still love the old, legendary features of Apple more.
Although it has been released for a long time, the iPhone 8 Plus still brings the luxury to the user with a glossy glass back. The minus point on most of this type of back surface is that it is easy to get fingerprints and I personally find it relatively slippery if used without cladding. The iPhone 8 Plus does not have a camera cluster too pit like on the iPhone 11 series or iPhone 12 series, but instead is a fairly simple 2-camera cluster. This is also the point I like this phone more because the back of the phone looks quite elegant.
The two side edges of the iPhone 8 Plus are machined from a fairly solid metal material. After a long time of use, the side border of the smartphone is still quite new, there is no phenomenon of scratches or shell explosions ever seen on the iPhone 6 series or iPhone 7 series. So, you can be assured of this situation if the rays are aimed at you iPhone 8 Plus! In addition, the monolithic design with curved edges brings a feeling of holding hands, especially limiting the situation of hand holding when playing games is also a plus point on this nearly 4 year old smartphone.
The performance of the iPhone 8 Plus is still very good!
Recently when Apple launched iOS 4.5 for smartphones, I quickly updated to this new operating system. So, you note that the operating system version you use is iOS 14.5 and will also have a little impact on the performance of that machine. How the effect is, you can see here!
First, I used AnTuTu Benchmark software to score iPhone 8 Plus and the result I got was quite high for a smartphone nearly 4 years old: 228,819 points. So I am confident that the iPhone 8 Plus can perform well in the tough performance tests below.
I use 2 relatively familiar games with different gameplay to challenge this device, including: Lien Quan Mobile and PUBG Mobile.
Because the score I got from the performance score is relatively stable, I decided to push the in-game configuration of the iPhone 8 Plus to an absolute level that the machine can meet:
As expected of the Apple flagship once. Even though it’s nearly 4 years old, the iPhone 8 Plus still gives me a smooth playing experience. The game images are reproduced vividly and sharply. Throughout the game, FPS fluctuated at a high level, from 59-60 FPS and the average of the whole game was 59.6 FPS. I appreciate this display of the Phone 8 Plus because despite the high graphics settings, this smartphone still maintains good stability.
To the second game PUBG Mobile, I also chose the tough configuration level to challenge the iPhone 8 Plus:
Although it cannot be played at high FPS, the iPhone 8 Plus can still provide a stable gameplay experience. The operation of running, aiming, or picking up items … all took place very quickly, almost without any delay. As for the picture, because it is set to HD, it is also relatively detailed, just enough to satisfy me. The average total FPS of the game I got was 29.7 FPS, which is still an impressive number for a high-demanding shooter game like PUBG.
The battery of the iPhone 8 Plus is somewhat exhausting compared to current smartphones
The phone I use is old so the battery status is only at 83%. So, it’s understandable that your iPhone 8 Plus has a worse battery life than the other iPhone 8 Plus with better battery health!
Coming to the battery test, we can not miss the familiar common conditions including:
- Experience 4 rotating tasks including: Play Lien Quan (Detailed setting), watch YouTube, surf Facebook and use Safari.
- Each task uses 1 hour.
- Screen brightness: 100%.
- Plug in wired headphones all through and turn on 100% volume.
- Turn on WiFi and social media notifications.
- Do not turn on battery saver, screen adaptive, GPS and Bluetooth.
- Dot from 100% to 0%.
The results I obtained are:
Compared with the smartphones at the present time, the 2,691 mAh tablet as well as the continuous use time is really inferior. The result of the iPhone 8 Plus’s 3 hours and 40 minutes also partly shows the disadvantages of this samrtphone. In fact, for 1 day of normal use, I would have to plug the battery charger 2 times a day. This greatly affects my usage experience. This is also what I don’t like the most about this iPhone 8 Plus.
The article will be fully updated on May 12, please remember to look forward to it!
