Welcome to the Dell S2721HGF Curved Gaming Monitor Ditching Review. I spent a few days with this budget monitor and have to say its place in our list of the best gaming monitors is well deserved.
You don’t have to spend tons of money to install a really nice gaming rig, and you’ll find some great budget options for whatever you need in our buying guide. If you’re looking for the best gaming mouse, gaming headset, gaming keyboard, or gaming chair, you should be able to find something that fits your budget.
If you want my quick look at the Dell S2721HGF Curved Gaming Monitor, I have to say, this is truly one of the best gaming monitors I’ve used in this price range. It has some cool, albeit limited, features and a decent display, while while some might think it is small, I never felt it had an impact on immersion.
Dell S2721HGF Curved Gaming Monitor Review: Design and Setup

Setting up the Dell S2721HGF Curved Gaming Monitor was probably the easiest experience I’ve had with a gaming monitor – for the most part. Assembling the stand requires just the turn of a screw, and attaching the stand to the monitor is a simple matter of sliding it out.
The only problem with this is that the ports are very boringly placed. They are deep enough in the monitor and hidden behind a fairly large plastic lip. I found it so difficult to simply find the hole the cable was supposed to go into that I had to lift the monitor completely with one arm and hold it to the side to see it. So it’s a good thing that it’s actually quite lightweight like gaming monitors.
While I’m here I’ll go through these ports, the S2721HGF comes with two HDMI 1.4 ports, a DisplayPort 1.2, and a 3.5mm headphone output jack. That’s fine, obviously there are better performing HDMIs and DisplayPorts out there and some budget monitors are starting to bring them in, but it’s pretty standard at this level. There aren’t any USB ports either, so I’m afraid you might not plug your mouse in here.
When we see what it looks like, there isn’t much to get excited about. On the front, Dell opted for the standard black plastic gaming monitor. A thin 1mm bezel runs along the top and sides with a wider black stripe at the base of the screen where you’ll find the Dell logo.
The rear goes against the trend of flashy lighting rigs and molded, textured plastic to give us a bit more of regular black plastic with an angular grille. It doesn’t look bad and I’m sure it saves on production, but there just isn’t enough to write about. The mount is pleasantly angular but quite basic, although it can be adjusted to 100mm.
Some people won’t appreciate a 27-inch curved monitor because it makes a small gaming monitor look smaller – but I like it. If you shop in this range, I imagine you don’t have a mansion in which to put this screen. I feel sharper on my desktop and it’s easier to see everything on the screen at the same time.

You can manage the settings and features of the Dell S2721HGF Curved Gaming Monitor by using the standard small gaming monitor joystick on the back. There are a few buttons underneath that will give you quick access to settings like contrast, brightness, and presets for your display.
For gaming, there are a number of configurations built into the monitor. These include genre-specific settings for things like FPS, RTS, RPG, and Sports, as well as three slots for game modes that you can customize to your own preferences.
You can also adjust the response times and FreeSync is enabled. You can manage simple settings like brightness and contrast, but there’s not much beyond that. It is a simple monitor and the corresponding parameters
As for the image, it has a screen of 1,920 x 1,080 VA. Some might think the resolution is a bit low for this monitor size, but it backs it up with a 144Hz refresh rate, 99% sRGB coverage, and a 1ms response time, which is roughly as good as you can get at this price.
The colors are vivid, the 3000: 1 contrast is excellent, and the details are clear, although I did notice a bit of blurring with fast movements in dark environments – although this is a fairly common problem with panel monitors. VA even at much higher prices.
Dell S2721HGF Curved Gaming Monitor Review: Price & Verdict
The Dell S2721HGF Curved Gaming Monitor is an inexpensive gaming monitor. Its suggested retail price is £ 268.50 / $ 279.99, but it’s often found much cheaper (check out our widgets for the best deal right now). This makes it the cheapest monitor on our list of the best gaming monitors.
Are there better gaming monitors? Sure, but I’ve tested a few that are reasonably more expensive than that without feeling a significant boost in performance. The Dell S2721HGF Curved Gaming Monitor does exactly what it sets out to do.
So if that falls within your modest budget for a gaming monitor, I would say you are going to go for it. If you need it for color work or image / video editing, maybe this monitor (or any other curved monitor) is not for you. But if you’re looking for something that works like a monitor and nails games without breaking the bank, I think the Dell S2721HGF Curved Gaming Monitor just might be.
