[ĐÁNH GIÁ XE] Honda CR-V L 2018 – Expensive to cut?

I quite like the gear shift position on the CR-V 2018, it makes it really easy to let go of the right hand from the steering wheel, to the gear you want and bring your right hand to the steering wheel really easily – you don’t need to pull the right hand completely Go back to change gears just like when driving other cars. It can be seen that Honda engineers have carefully studied the driving habits of users to arrange each function key, each part of the car in the most reasonable and easy to grasp way. From the buttons on the steering wheel to the buttons on the door panel, it’s all very easy to get used to. In fact, the Honda CR-V 2018 is one of the fastest cars I get to know. A family car must be the most driver-friendly, providing everything they want in the most scientific way, in the most visible position instead of “riddling” the driver.

Honda is a car company that optimizes car interior space very well. From the tiny Honda Fit with the unique “Magic Seat” seat design to the CR-V we’ve experienced, Honda engineers have never let us down in the interior space. The central saddle area is full of necessary ports, including 2 12V / 180W power ports, 2 USB 1.0A and 1.5A ports, 1 HDMI port.

The storage tray is located just below the gear lever that can fit a large phone or wallet, while 2 central cup holders can hold 1 liter water bottles. And yet, the tray under the center armrest is also removable for you to fit … some iPads or a medium-sized bag! The storage area between the two front seats of the CR-V 2018 is really the most flexible and spacious in the 5 + 2-seater crossover segment, which is a consideration if you buy a car to serve the family.

All 7 seats on the car are soft leather, little odor, 8-way power driver seat. The driver’s seat and front passenger seat are designed to hug the whole back and the hip of the person sitting, especially supporting the lower back very well, ensuring the driver will help reduce lumbar fatigue if you have to drive for many hours continuously. The head space, legroom and shoulder space in the first two rows are all good, I personally don’t have a height of 1m7, no matter where I sit in the 5 positions above. Another plus point is that the CR-V 2018 floor in the second row is very flat, flatter than the Mazda CX-5, which will make people in the middle more comfortable.

Passengers in the second row are served by 2 separate air-conditioning vents, 2 USB 2.5A ports and “enjoy” the air conditioner cluster on the ceiling for the 3rd row, which can adjust the speed. wind. The second row of seats can recline, slide up and down and fold completely flat in the ratio of 40:60 to increase the storage area. With seat 3 folded flat, the storage space up to 1,110 liters and if folded both the 2nd and 3rd row, the total volume up to 2,146 liters. If carrying enough 7 people, the storage space is still 150 liters, enough to hold two medium-sized suitcases and some other items.

These four louvers are essential in the summer heat of Vietnam!

The third row is the most interesting thing on the CR-V 2018. With this equipment, the CR-V automatically sits with the Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander. The space for the last two seating positions is quite cramped but this is the general condition of the CUV 5 + 2 models. At least the people in the CR-V can stretch their legs more comfortably than the Nissan X-Trail. And yet, with the air-conditioning system banging loudly on the head, the person sitting in the third row of the Honda CR-V will feel much more comfortable, especially when Mitsubishi Outlander does not even have air vents for the row of seats. 2nd!

The most advanced L version we experience also owns a panoramic panoramic sunroof with 3 open modes, giving a spacious and relaxing feeling to the passengers in the car. In terms of safety equipment, the Honda CR-V 2018 owns all the technology and standard features of a modern CUV: Electronic balance VSA, Active steering assist AHA, ABS, EBD, BA, Support for horizontal departure HSA, ESS Emergency brake light, Anti-drowsy warning, 6 airbags, 3-angle reverse camera, reversing sensor etc. 5th generation Honda CR-V is one of the models The first achieved the ASEAN NCAP 5-star safety standard according to the new evaluation criteria framework for the period 2017-2020.

Experience for money

Right from the first kilometers of the 2018 CR-V, I realized that this is a completely different car than the version it replaced. The car glided very smoothly, almost all the noise could not get into the cabin compartment – a quite unexpected experience because Honda cars often do not sound too good, except for the 10th-generation Civic. the result of a radical revolution.

The chief engineer in charge of the Honda CR-V 5th generation project is Mr. Takaaki Nagadome, who started his career at Honda with the project to create the first NSX legend. His usual practice is to use a single adjective to describe the car he is responsible for designing. For CR-V 5th generation, he uses the word “Wow”.

Wow? What is it about a 5 + 2 family car that makes us admire when we see it? According to Mr. Takaaki, for the new CR-V project, the challenges right from the idea development process are not small. Simply because he has the ambition to create a high-rise car not only handy but also possesses the “driving feeling”. He wanted a smooth car at high speed, capable of controlling bad terrain and high safety. Those were ambitious goals, and Takaaki and his colleagues accomplished them with respectable mechanical solutions.

To enhance the driving feel, which is often overlooked in CUV cars, Honda uses electric power steering with double gears and a gear ratio that varies with speed. Compared to single-gear power steering systems, systems with double gears absorb both the driving force from the driver and the auxiliary motor from the electric motor. Thanks to a torque sensor, the system calculates and provides the optimum support force for the driver to operate the steering wheel really easily but does not completely lose the feeling of driving. The CR-V’s steering system has a ratio of about 20%, that is, at low speeds, the driver only needs to turn the steering wheel 2.3 times to two limit points (instead of 3.1 turns like CR-V previous generation). That makes maneuvering in tight terrain or parking a lot easier. In contrast, the steering wheel will be “hard”, more compact at high speed to ensure safety when traveling on the highway.

The suspension is also thoroughly upgraded. It’s still the familiar MacPherson suspension fork and rear multi-point link, but Honda has upgraded the small components to bring great efficiency. First, the front and rear stabilizer bars are made thicker and are attached to the arms of the monolithic rubber suspension system, which has a much stronger and more durable structure. And yet, for the first time, the suspension of a CR-V uses rubber bushing (bushing) that contains fluid inside, instead of just using dry rubber core as the same segment models. This premium design delivers superior smoothness and effectively suppresses vibration caused by road surface defects.

A solid and lightweight chassis also contributes significantly to the driving feel, sound insulation and smoothness of the vehicle. Chassis of CR-V generation 5 possesses an amount of tough steel that is “unbelievable” compared to the old generation. Ultra-hard steel 1500 MPa accounted for 13.8% of the body structure of CR-V 2018 (this figure on the previous CR-V was … 3%); 980 MPa toughened steel accounts for 11.8% of the body structure (this steel does not appear on CR-V 4th generation). The rest of the chassis and body are made up of 11.6% steel with 780 MPa hardness, 10% steel 590 MPa; 3.1% of steel 440 MPa; 6.2% of steel 340 MPa and the remaining 43.5% are made of steel with a hardness of 270 MPa.

Engineers also improved the spot welding method to further improve the rigidity and durability of the chassis. In some critical locations, the distance between welding points is shortened to only 20 mm instead of the standard 45 mm. Closer welds will make the welding position more durable and achieve better rigidity. In addition, Honda engineers also designed the soft areas intentionally to absorb most of the momentum in the event of an accident, contributing to maximum protection of people in the car. All of these “invisible” upgrades, plus the design of tighter body panels, more tight door gaskets, make the CR-V experience truly impressive. The car “swallows” all the potholes in a smooth and very balanced way, firmly at high speeds. The noise level I measured was only 69 dBA at 100 km / h, a very convincing number.

So, the Honda CR-V 2018 is a very smooth, spacious, comfortable car with loads of amenities or in other words – a great family car. But what if you are a person who likes to rhyme a steering wheel? Then, you will be interested in whether the new 1.5L engine and CVT gearbox will “ruin” your experience.

Honda CR-V 2018 owns a 4-cylinder VTEC Turbo engine, capacity of 1.5 liters for a capacity of 188 hp, 240 Nm. This is a more powerful version of the engine on the new Civic. According to Toshikatsu Takanohashi, chief engineer in charge of designing CR-V 2018 engines, CR-V engines are more powerful than Civic thanks to the new turbine design, intake valves and exhaust valves. The CR-V exhaust turbine has a 9-wing design (instead of 11 as the Civic), with each wing 5 mm longer and 3 mm wider. This new design increases 6% of compressed air pressure.

In theory, larger turbochargers mean more “lag”. However, I could hardly feel the difference between CR-V and Civic engines. A clear advantage of the turbocharged engine is that the maximum torque comes very quickly and is maintained over a very wide rpm (with CR-V, the maximum torque of 240 Nm is obtained at rev range of 2,000 to 5,000 rpm). A small comparison: the 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated Mazda CX-5 2.5L engine achieves a maximum torque of 251 Nm at 4,000 rpm, less revving when you reach it on the go. day.

The turbocharged engine – combined with the best CVT gearbox in the segment, makes the experience with the CR-V 2018 different from the CR-V of “yesterday” (I mean the CR-V owns 2.4-liter engine and 5-speed automatic transmission). Selecting the D and slightly shifting the accelerator, the car glided gently and smoothly, almost without any engine or gear noise entering the cabin. CVT gearbox makes the best use of it when you go in such a “gentle, emotional” way. It makes the most of the traction of the turbocharged engine block and always actively keeps the rpm below 2,000 rpm to save gasoline, as well as reduce engine noise. I believe that customers who are looking for a tall, spacious and smooth family car will appreciate the way the CR-V 2018 glides on the street.

Switch to S mode, the car decisively decisively over, the engine is always kept at the threshold of over 2,000 rpm. Trying to step on the accelerator pedal in a stationary position, the car accelerates in a smooth but very fast way, only takes about 8 seconds to reach the threshold of 100 km / h. When trying to step on the gas pedal while moving stably at 80 km / h, the CVT gearbox responded very well, almost immediately finding the optimal gear ratio for the CR-V to easily overtake the car. However, when going “cool”, the engine noise entered the cabin a bit too.

Headlights / cos LED has good brightness, color temperature equivalent to daylight

The reaction is quite good, which I appreciate in the CVT gearbox of the CR-V. The gearbox is designed to create a feeling of “gearing up” when the engine reaches a limited rpm to simulate a gearbox experience. The 1.5L engine block also provides a commensurate experience – I don’t feel “remembering” the 2.4 engine of the previous version because of the very good traction of this turbocharged engine. Even so, those who really want to enjoy every kilometer of the road with their “steed” may still prefer the automatic gearbox with a more realistic gearbox. However, for an SUV / Crossover, the sport experience is not as important as the comfort and smoothness experience. To me, the Honda CR-V is a family car, and it does a great job of this.

With the highest selling price in the segment, Honda CR-V could not become the choice of the masses. VND 1,256 billion (listed price of the highest-end CR-V) is not a small amount of money, especially when many competitors are being offered attractive incentives. Even so, the 2018 Honda CR-V is a really good value for money. It is worth the money from design, machining quality to mechanical parts and practical experience. To me, the Honda CR-V is the “perfect” family car because it meets my needs for a family car. However, how many people spend a large amount of money to buy that “perfection” is another story.
