COVID-19 epidemic: Many localities of Cambodia face the risk of an outbreak

Cambodia’s Ministry of Health said on March 7 that the infection situation in the city of Sihanoukville (Preah Sihanouk province) was considered the most serious with 110 cases of infection (15 newly discovered cases). These infections have a great influence on socio-economic activities, especially tourism services and casinos of the coastal city, which attracts a large number of foreign tourists.

From the night of 3/3, the Sihanoukville government officially issued a blockade order, restricting access to this city, except for the transport of goods, ambulances and activities related to security and order. There have been an additional 35 public places and accommodation facilities in Sihanoukville blocked due to involvement with the COVID-19 infection in the community.

Earlier, on the evening of March 6, the Kandal provincial government (bordering the capital Phnom Penh) quarantined 723 people at Yong Yuan casino (Koh Thom district) after a Chinese man at this place was discovered. COVID-19 infection.

As of 8 am on March 7, the Ministry of Health of Cambodia confirmed there were 34 additional cases of COVID-19 infection nationwide, bringing the total number of positive cases for SARS-CoV-2 virus to 987 cases, of which 510 cases has recovered.
