1992 HONDA CBR900RR FireBlade Completely lightweight + high horsepower

Faced with the 750 imitation model for the track and the 1000cc model that places more emphasis on horsepower than the weight, HONDA launched a sports car model featuring a new concept “Total Control” in 1992. The name of this car is “CBR900RR”.

The result of the thorough pursuit of lightweight is that the car weighs only 185kg, which is more than 40kg less than the 1000cc model at the time, and the body size is not far from the 600cc model. The most critical engine is based on the in-line four-cylinder engine newly designed for 750cc. The displacement is 893cc and the maximum horsepower is 124ps. Although it does not seem to be too high, this value is reversed and calculated by HONDA in order to realize the concept of research and development. The result came out, and its brand-new control pleasure made the knights fascinated by it.

Although the term “Super Sport” has existed for a long time, it is definitely the first ancestor that made a brand-new car type fixed. After the appearance of this car, various motorcycle brands quickly followed up. Later, the YAMAHA YZF-R1, which came out in 1998, was used as an opportunity to make the competition more fierce.

▲The size of the engine becomes the same as that of CBR600F through the use of side timing chains, shortened crankshafts and small ACG, and then uses a large and curved aluminum alloy frame to wrap the engine inside. The front fork uses a double-piston structure, a very thick upright front fork with a diameter of φ45mm, which takes into account both lightness and rigidity.

▲The holes next to the upper fairing and the lower fairing are designed to reduce air resistance when the car body is tilted. This technology has been used until the fourth edition in 1998, which was developed by the first generation of R&D staff Tadao Baba.

Stimulated by RR, KAWASAKI also launched a super sports car. The displacement was chosen as the traditional 900 ㏄ since the Z1. Although the car body uses an aluminum alloy diamond frame, it is more bulky than the RR, with a strong wagon style.
