At the Unpacked 2021 event on January 14, Samsung technology tycoon officially unveiled the three most advanced smartphones of the Galaxy S series to all users. The Galaxy S 2021 trio is officially called: Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 + and Galaxy S21 Ultra.
The Apple and Sam house wars are always going on. The duo bring on the scale these days is the Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12.
Performance comparison: iPhone 12 stellar with the A14 Bionic
Apple introduced the iPhone 12 with the best processor on the market, the A14 Bionic. Previously there was the performance test of the A14 Bionic on Geekbench 5 with a single-core score of 1,595 and multi-core of 3,880. For Galaxy Note 20 Ultra integrated Snapdragon 865 Plus only scored 985 single-core and 3294 multi-core. This is a pretty big gap for Samsung to narrow.
In 2021, Samsung plans to integrate two processors, the Snapdragon 888 and the Exynos 2100, for each market. The Snapdragon 888 is Qualcomm’s flagship processor that was launched not too long ago. The chip promises to bring an improved image signal processor, better AI engine.
Qualcomm says that the Kryo 680 CPU in the Snapdragon 888 provides a 25% increase in overall performance over the Snapdragon 865. The Adreno 660 GPU will improve the graphics by 35% over its predecessor. That may not be enough to beat the iPhone 12 in tests, but optimizing the experience will help Galaxy S21 prevail. However, these are only theoretical numbers, we will evaluate in more detail when holding Galaxy S21 with Snapdragon 888.
Battery capacity and fast charging
Battery life is a huge difference between Samsung and Apple. With the exception of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, Apple’s new models struggle with battery life in tests. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise since this is Apple’s first 5G phone, and 5G makes them drain the battery faster.
Samsung has two years of manufacturing 5G equipment. As a result, power optimization could be better on the Galaxy S21. Don’t expect major battery capacity changes on the Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra series, though. Expected phone is integrated 4000mAh and 5000mAh batteries, similar to its predecessor. The difference will come from the Galaxy S21 Plus version with a 4,800mAh battery (last year’s Galaxy S20 + was 4,500mAh).
It is also said that the Snapdragon 888 chipset is more power efficient. Not only that, but integrating the 5G modem in the Snapdragon 888 chip also helps increase battery life on the phone. In an unexpected move, Samsung could follow Apple’s controversial decision to remove the charger that came with the product box.
A special feature and major change in the upcoming Galaxy S21 series is that the Galaxy S21 Ultra will use the Spen pen. However, this does not mean that the company will ship the Galaxy S21 Ultra with a stylus, maybe it will be sold separately.
Selling price is one of the factors that decide a user’s purchase. In the US, the iPhone 12 is currently priced at $ 699 for the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 12 at $ 799, the iPhone 12 Pro at $ 999, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max at $ 1,099.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S21 is rumored to keep the price from the Galaxy S20 series. This means the Galaxy S21 will start at $ 999, the Galaxy S21 Plus is $ 1,199, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra is $ 1,399. Particularly leak expert Max Weinbach said that Samsung will reduce the price on the Galaxy S21 models. This should bring the Galaxy S21 closer to the price of the iPhone 12 series.
It’s clear with expected features on the Galaxy S21 series like 120Hz adaptive scan frequency. Support for Spen pens, telephoto lenses and better battery life is a real challenge. As for the iPhone 12, it still has its own features like the A14 Bionic, stable iOS and an improved camera.
In your opinion, will you choose iPhone 12 Pro Max or Samsung Galaxy S21?
