Barcelona will travel to Ukraine to face Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League on Tuesday night, but they won’t have key players including Lionel Messi and Frenkie de Jong.
Ronald Koeman revealed that the pair are being rested after a disappointing 0-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid on Saturday. Barcelona will come as a guest of Dynamo Kyiv, but it seems that this team is very confident in their ability to continue in the Champions League.
Koeman said during the pre-match press conference: “We have decided not to use Messi and De Jong. Our situation in the Champions League is quite comfortable and they need to rest.”.
Barcelona’s poor performance has received much criticism from Koeman and his players in recent weeks, but the Dutch manager remains focused on his job and free of media fuss and Fans.
He said: “We know the situation of the club and what is going to happen. I am satisfied with the work the players are doing but not satisfied with the total number of points we have.”.
Messi’s outside performances and behavior have also been closely watched, the uncertain prospect of his future enveloping the club like a dark cloud. The Argentine tried to leave last summer and is out of contract at the end of June.
Koeman says: “Leo has always had a lot of influence on the success of this club, and he can still give more. I believe he is still the player we need.”.
