China: Gold mine fire, 6 workers lost their lives | World

Follow Xinhua News Agency, the fire occurred at about 6 a.m. on February 16 (local time) during maintenance at the Caojiawa Gold Mine (Chaoyuan City, Shandong Province).

At least 200 lifeguards were dispatched to the scene.

10 miners were trapped in the fire. Six people died and 4 were taken to hospital for treatment.

The fire was the second biggest incident at a Shandong gold mine in over a month.

Earlier, in January, 11 workers were rescued after being trapped in a mine in Hushan for two weeks.

However, at least 10 miners were killed, prompting the authorities to strengthen safety checks.
