Bytedance confirms Ma Weiying’s resignation and will continue to serve as Bytedance’s technical consultant
On July 28, in response to media reports about the resignation of Ma Weiying, the former vice president of ByteDance and the head of AI Lab, ByteDance officially responded that according to his personal interests, Ma Weiying chose Tsinghua University to engage in talent training and scientific research related work. At the same time, he will continue to serve as ByteDance technical consultant.
Earlier today, the media reported that Ma Weiying, the former vice president of ByteDance and director of the artificial intelligence laboratory, announced that he was leaving. He will go to the Intelligent Industry Research Institute of Tsinghua University and join the team of former Baidu President Zhang Yaqin who is preparing for the industry research institute.
Ma Weiying graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan in 1990, and received a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 1994 and 1997. After graduation, Ma Weiying worked at HP Labs for four years, and then worked at Microsoft Research Asia for 16 years. In 2017, Ma Weiying resigned from the post of executive vice president of Microsoft Research Asia and joined ByteDance.
Ma Weiying has published hundreds of papers in world-class conferences and journals, and holds more than one hundred technical patents. In 2010, he was selected as an ACM Distinguished Member and in 2011, he was selected as an IEEE Fellow.
