The watch that once belonged to martial arts legend Bruce Lee was sold for 225,000 HKD (nearly 670 million VND) in Hong Kong – far beyond the expected price.
The memorabilia of the destitute actor is always a hot item at many auctions. Among them is Universal Genève Polerouter (1950s), a rare gold-plated steel wristwatch in history.
It belonged to an anonymous buyer at Phillips & Blackbird auction on Monday night at JW Marriott Hong Kong. Initially, the price is expected to stop at 80,000 – 150,000 HKD (240-445 million VND).
Accompanying the Universal Genre Polerouter is a letter proving originating from the previous owner, Herb Jackson, a disciple and also a close friend of Bruce Lee in the United States.
The martial arts legend gave Jackson the watch as a souvenir, it was handed back to Jackson's son, Mark Ashton-Jackson, before it was sold on Monday.
According to those who have close ties with Bruce Lee, Herb Jackson is the one who directly helps the Production of training equipment.
