In an exchange with Financial Times, CEO of FLC Group said Bamboo Airways is working with a competent aviation agency in the US to open direct flights from Vietnam. It is expected that in the first quarter of 2020, Bamboo Airways will have direct flights to the US even without a specific location.
The opening of direct flights to the US comes from the travel demand compared to the increasing number of international tourists to Vietnam. Along with that, the number of passengers departing from fast growing economies in Asia is increasing.
Mr. Trinh Van Quyet – Bamboo Airways executive director – said the company is considering direct flights from Vietnam to San Francisco or Los Angeles. However the departure place is Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh is still in the stage of being considered by the company.
Bamboo Airways started taking off trade from January 2019. The company's recent plans for meetings have always mentioned new locations and the reception of new aircraft into their fleet.
However, analysts are still expressing skepticism about the plan of Vietnam Bamboo Airlines. As a new name in the aviation industry in Vietnam, Bamboo Airways will take a long time to get approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration FAA, despite the fact that Vietnam has been granted the Aviation Safety Inspection Certificate. Cat 1 standard, that is, International Airports in Vietnam can open direct flights to the US. Long-distance flights bring convenience to customers but it always increases the fuel costs for airlines.
Analysts also expressed surprise when Bamboo Airways considered hiring an Airbus A380 for this special flight. This is the largest commercial aircraft line being exploited on transcontinental routes. Estimated flight time on these stages will be from 14 to 16 hours.
The CEO of FLC Group also stated that potential customers of this flight will include entrepreneurs, who want to visit relatives residing in the United States in cities where Vietnamese people are living.
FLC Group has been approved to open Bamboo Airways Aviation Training Institute to provide its human resources, including: Pilots, Flight Attendant, Engineering, Ground Operations and basic training functions. … Currently, the carrier is operating domestic flights by Airbus A321neo aircraft. As expected, Bamboo Airways will receive a wide range of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft in the future.
We are waiting to see which airlines in Vietnam (or international) can open direct flights from Vietnam to the US.
