Asus NovaGo review. Is it worth it to trade everything for a long battery life?

Asus NovaGo

Asus NovaGo is a laptop with the longest battery life in the segment. The device is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, providing efficient power consumption but not very impressive performance.

This processor chip allows the laptop to have a battery life of up to 15 hours on a single charge, as well as the ability to quickly open the machine similar to other smartphones on the market. However, with these features are the limitations of the laptop, namely mid-range performance and limited application compatibility.

The limitation in compatibility with applications comes from both software and hardware factors of the laptop. Similar to Snapdragon-powered laptops, Asus NovaGo uses Windows 10 operating system in S Mode, which makes all applications not downloaded from the Microsoft Store completely blocked. And yet, but this laptop line cannot use applications developed on a 64-bit platform, making a large number of applications on the market incompatible with the laptop.

These weaknesses make the laptop difficult to compete with other models in the same segment on the market. Not to mention the lack of basic functions such as keyboard illumination, USB Type-C.

Resolution 1,920 x 1,080
Mass 1.39kg
Size 12.44 x 8.7 x 0.59 inches

Asus NovaGo owns an external design similar to other Asus Windows 10 laptops sold on the market. The case is made of aluminum, finished in a base metallic gray color.

The device possesses polished chrome-plated details, which include a 360-degree screen hinge, touchpad frame. Although the laptop has a relatively compact appearance like the high-end 2-in-1 laptops on the market, it lacks basic features, namely the keyboard light and USB Type-C.

The fact that the keyboard of the device is not equipped with a projection system makes the input experience with the NovaGo uncomfortable at all, especially when the keyboard itself is not of very good quality. The machine’s buttons have short travel and have a bit of weak tactile feedback.

The good news is that the device’s touchpad is quite good quality, has smooth navigation and has good tactile feedback. The smooth flat surface of the laptop is disturbed by the fingerprint security placed in the upper corner, providing a not very seamless user experience.

Asus equips the NovaGo with a 13.3-inch touch screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels with a pixel density of 165 ppi. The screen of the device has a measured color coverage of 100% of the sRGB range.

The screen of the machine has the ability to present good images, with impressive colors. The touch performance of the screen is not very good. The screen brightness of the NovaGo measured 310 nits, higher than the segment average.

The performance test of Asus NovaGo was not very favorable, because there was only one benchmark that was compatible with Windows 10’s S Mode.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, NovaGo possesses a performance level that is not very good. During our actual use, although the laptop performed well for basic everyday tasks like surfing the web and writing documents, it took a bit longer to open these applications.

This processor chip allows the laptop to have a battery life of up to 15 hours on a single charge, as well as the ability to quickly open the machine similar to other smartphones on the market. However, accompanying these features are the limitations of the laptop, namely mid-range performance and limited application compatibility.

The limitation in compatibility with applications comes from both software and hardware factors of the laptop. And yet, but this laptop line cannot use applications developed on a 64-bit platform, making a large number of applications on the market incompatible with the laptop.

When we upgraded the operating system of the machine to the Pro version, the performance of the laptop became worse. The machine can not only run each benchmark is Geekbench 4 due to poor software compatibility, but also has a much lower performance score than other competitors in the same segment.

This test result shows that NovaGo is not too suitable for handling large workloads.

This is one of the few strong points of the laptop. Asus claims that the device can be used continuously for 22 hours on a single charge. However, in our test, the machine only lasted 15 hours and 5 minutes.

Although the actual battery life of the device is lower than what the company promises, the device still possesses an impressive battery life, easily surpassing all laptops in the segment.

You can take your laptop with you everywhere and use it with confidence without worrying about running out of battery midway.

The machine uses Windows 10 operating system in S Mode, there are not many pre-installed junk applications like other operating system versions. This shortened version of Windows 10 is one of the reasons the laptop has such an impressive battery life, as well as giving the laptop an almost instant boot time.

Of course, using this version of the operating system means that you can only use apps that are installed directly from the Microsoft Store.

NovaGo is released with a variety of configuration options. The version that we use is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip configuration, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal memory, a 13.3-inch screen, Full HD resolution.

The device is sold in the same price segment as the Lenovo Flex 6 14 and the Samsung Notebook 7 Spin. The Flex 6 is equipped with an Intel Core i5 chip, a 14-inch screen, Full HD resolution, 8GB of RAM and has twice as much internal memory as the Asus laptop.

Meanwhile, the default version of the NoteBook 7 Spin is equipped with an Intel Core i5 chip, 8GB of RAM, a 13.3-inch screen, Full HD resolution, and a 256GB SSD.

Both of these competing models are equipped with keyboards with backlighting – a feature that the NovaGo lacks. However, NovaGo is equipped with the same fingerprint security login capability as these two devices via Windows Hello. The device has a much longer battery life than competitors in the same segment in the market and is capable of 4G network connectivity.

Asus NovaGo

Asus NovaGo is a laptop with a price in the mid-range and high-end price segment. This makes the laptop not as valuable as cheap laptops and does not provide the ultimate user experience of high-end laptops.

The laptop also has poor application compatibility. And yet, the device is not equipped with basic features such as a USB Type-C port and a keyboard light.

The only commendable point of the NovaGo is its battery life. This is one of the laptops with the longest battery life in the segment, allowing users to easily use it for 2 days without having to charge the battery halfway. If what you need in a laptop is battery life then surely Asus NovaGo will not let you down.
