Today, a new report on navigation app trends reveals how much Google Maps will lead Apple Maps and other services. The main reason is why almost 70% of users stick to Google Maps.
In the survey, Manifest asked about 500 smartphone users about their favorite navigation app and what made them choose. Google Maps is obviously the most popular, with 67% of respondents choosing this app.
Google’s own Waze app is much less popular, with only 12% saying they like it the most, and Apple Maps is third, with 11%.
Apple announced late last month that it is making significant changes to its map service.
Kuy said that Apple is currently working to create “the best map application in the world”, which requires “building all our map data from scratch.”
However, most Apple Maps users will not see much improvement in the short term, as the first changes will be rolled out in San Francisco and the San Francisco Bay Area this fall and then extended to Northern California later this year.
As for the factor in choosing a favorite navigation app, users say that clear direction is first. User-preferred features and friendly design / interfaces rank second and third.
Interestingly, 14% of the respondents said that they had never used other navigation apps except their favorite navigation apps.
It is worth noting that this list does not reveal the proportion of users using iPhone and Android smartphones in the survey, so the results naturally tend to show that Google Maps is more popular. However, it is no secret that Apple Maps has a lot of work to do to catch up and surpass Google Maps to become the king of navigation.
