Yesterday, we were able to discover a first stolen photo of the gaming smartphone, which revealed thatASUS was planning to skip the number 4 and call its ROG Phone 5. Chinese manufacturers are in the habit of skipping the number 4 because of superstition, called tetraphobia, which is very common in Asia. Some buildings even do not have a 4th floor.

ASUS ROG Phone 5: an RGB screen on the back of the smartphone for the gaming side

The main design change from the ASUS ROG Phone 3 seems to be this small screen in the middle of the back of the smartphone. As you can see from the GIF below, it can show various information which is not very readable. Some gamers are fond of this kind of elements, which are becoming more and more common on components such as graphics cards or PC gaming motherboards.

It is not known exactly if this screen will be configurable and if it will automatically turn on when the user starts a game. However, we can see on the video that the person presses the huge red button at the bottom right of the smartphone, which seems to make the RGB screen react. What is a shame is thatonce in game, the user will not be able to admire the screen on the back of their smartphone.

We know that the ASUS ROG Phone 5 will be equipped with the new Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm, the all-in-one chip for high-end smartphones. The phone will have 3 rear photo sensors, including a 64 MP main sensor, an ultra wide-angle sensor and a third still unknown sensor.

We will find at the front an AMOLED FHD + display with a refresh rate of 144 Hz. This one will be powered by a massive 6000mAh battery like its predecessor, but this one will be compatible with 65W fast charging.
