[Central News Agency]The last Governor of Hong Kong, Chris Patten, said that China has betrayed the people of Hong Kong and the West should no longer bow down to Beijing for fantasy treasures.

The Times quoted Patten as saying, “The people of Hong Kong have been betrayed by Beijing.” Britain has “moral, economic and legal responsibilities” to stand up for Hong Kong.

He said: “We are in front of a new Chinese dictatorship. We should not be fooled anymore, thinking that we can dig for treasure after we bow down, this is all fantasy.”

The National People’s Congress of China will review the authorization of the “Hong Kong version of the National Security Law” on the 28th. After its approval, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress will begin legislation as soon as the end of June. The bill clearly stipulates that the national security organ will set up an office in Hong Kong to perform its duties, causing outsiders to question that Hong Kong’s “one country, two systems” has disappeared.
