[Central News Agency]After the military coup in Myanmar last week, US President Joe Biden said today that he would take actions against the Myanmar military, including freezing its assets in the United States. Biden also called on Myanmar generals to surrender power.

Agence France-Presse reported that Biden said: “Today, I once again call on the Myanmar military to immediately release the democratic political leaders and activists they are detaining, including (literati leader) Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Min (Win Myint).”

Biden said: “The military must hand over power.”

Biden also said that his government will cut off the pipeline through which Myanmar will receive 1 billion US dollars of funds in the United States, and that new sanctions will be announced soon.

Biden said: “I have approved the new executive order, allowing our country to immediately sanction the military leaders who commanded the coup, their business interests and close relatives.”
